Girls ARE the New Boys
Midway through a hike at Mitake-san, Raza and I were stopping for a breather when he noticed my T-shirt from SFO (after 4 hours of my wearing it, unbelievable) that says GIRLS ARE THE NEW BOYS, in taunting bold letters.
It took him a second to start a debate (which I like having with him because I could always punch him in the end when I’m losing): What’s up with women and your insecurities?
Whoa, mister. Hold your horses. Our insecurities? OUR INSECURITIES???
(It is NEVER ideal to start a debate with me with an accusation that I’m bound to deny as I’m almost always inclined to punch you in the nose instead.)
In this case I proceeded to open fire: Who said that we’re insecure? Doesn’t your negative reading of this phrase mean that YOU’RE the one who’s insecure because we really ARE the new boys?
We went back and forth, back and forth, which included my saying that historically, women have been the inferior sex that’s why we have fought back (and are clearly winning, haha) and then his not surprisingly saying that that’s not true (Females as inferior sex ---> NOT TRUE??? I was clenching my fists then), and that yes, in earlier times women were mere objects, that the mother was “inherited” by the son when the father had died, but that in more recent times women have been regarded as most important, next to only God.
Oh boy. His statement was CRAZY open to so much rebuttal that there were thousands, THOUSANDS of things I started to say at the same time, but we were already stopping people at their (hiking) tracks as I might have appeared to be ready to knife his guts out and push him to the edge towards the river down below.
He retreated and said, Well not you, not you, I've always admired you for your intelligence, blah blah blah blah... I was referring to SOME women who are insecure...
Duh. I stood up and started hiking back.
Girls are indeed the new boys.
Don’t you boys go hating now. =P
